How does hypnosis happen ?

Hypnotists use words and basically the only tools of a hypnotist are his or her words. A professional hypnotist is a person that has improved their ability to communicate and will choose their words very carefully and use those words to great effect through use of timing and tonality to paint pictures of new realities in your mind.

A good hypnotist realises that the person being hypnotised need not close their eyes and need not necessarily feel relaxed and they will also realise that people are responding to words all the time and that it's only a matter of looking for the feedback coming from the other person to be able to adapt their words to induce a profound state of hypnosis where change can occur easily.

Because hypnotists only use words that makes each and every one of us hypnotists. The difference between a professional hypnotist and a ' lay general public hypnotist ' is that the professional realises just how much words will effect other people and will use words to produce often dramatic and positive changes to the way you think and feel.

A professional hypnotist understands that for a person to make sense of words then they will have to represent those words in their mind. This means that you will have to imagine the very thing that is being spoken about and this is how new realities are created, new ways of thinking and feeling. If you have ever had a friend call you whilst they were feeling down or depressed you may have noticed how after speaking with them you felt down yourself. This is just an example of how we can respond to words and how we can allow words to change the way we feel.

Our words don't only have the ability to have an effect on other peoples feelings and thoughts but they will also have an impact on the way we feel. Some people constantly tell themselves that they are not good enough or that they can't achieve certain things and over a period of time and compounding of the suggestions they act out those words as though they were true. You may want to consider this point the next time you say something negative to yourself or to others.

Hypnotists can also teach you how to not continually respond to negative suggestions that may be making you feel bad. In my work the amount of times that I have heard clients tell me that other people make them feel bad is amazing and with a good hypnotist you can learn how this happens and how to stop it when it is of no use to you.

I have read in various books, brochures and on websites that hypnosis is a relaxed state of mind and body where levels of suggestibility are increased and that you can not be made to do anything against your will. The last part I certainly agree with. Some people may find they lack the ability to relax and therefore assume they can not be hypnotised. This isn't true. If you have ever seen a stage hypnosis show you would know that the people on stage often look anything but relaxed. The people that are hypnotised will be moving around doing all sorts of bizarre looking things and the last thing that the stage hypnotist wants is someone that does an impression of a person sleeping.

If you have the ability to listen it means that hypnosis can work for you. Some hypnotists like their clients to feel relaxed and will often suggest this but it's not really that important. It's just relaxation. There are far better feelings to be had.

Some people assume that they are to strong minded to be hypnotised meaning that they wont be controlled by a hypnotist. This is fine if you want to use strength of mind to avoid the benefits of hypnosis. It's your choice but you could also use your strong mind to use hypnosis and make amazing changes in your life. You always have a choice even with hypnosis.

I can't explain how hypnosis will feel to you because it could feel anyway it's suggested and I'm not going to offer you that suggestion at the moment.

For a an absolutely brilliant book about hypnosis I would highly recommend a book by Steven Wolinski called The Trances People Live. After reading the book you'll be surprised to find that hypnosis is something you're already familiar with
